SEXUAL ASSAULT PREVENTION
The goal in Washington State is to change norms, values, beliefs and attitudes that contribute to sexual violence and shift ownership of the solutions to the community. Prevention is a key part of working towards this goal.
Our prevention efforts are classified into two levels:
This approach aims to stop sexual violence before it occurs; preventing initial victimization & perpetration.
This approach has an immediate response to sexual violence to deal with short-term consequences.
PRIMARY & SECONDARY:
Efforts address the root causes of sexual violence. This practice shifts the responsibility of prevention to society and off of recovering survivors.
We use the social ecological model to provide a framework for understanding different influences and their relationship to one another.
How to achieve our goal
By framing our prevention program and activities so that all lessons and topics reinforce one another and reach people at different layers of the social ecological model.
